For example, if you specify 20 minutes as the time duration and set 4 as the number of times Focus Monitored will signal, Focus Monitored will alarm at 4 unexpected and random times within 20 minutes. Focus Monitored uses positive tones to alert you and your students to monitor who was meeting task demands at the random time Focus Monitored sounded. Students could be rewarded, praised, or acknowledged for meeting task requirements or feedback could be given to explain what the students need to do to meet expectations. The unexpectedness of variable interval reinforcement is what makes Focus Monitored an effective tool in helping provide your students extra encouragement. Variable interval reinforcement is a researched based principle of learning theory and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Focus Monitored can be used with your existing ABA, Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) or Self-Monitoring program you are using or as a stand-alone intervention.
